For those that receive the newsletter or follow Africa Sleeps on Facebook or Instagram, this is old news. But for those that haven't heard, Africa Sleeps has a new owner! As of September 1, I (Karen) am the new owner.
Here is a little bit about me and my family:
My husband, Jeremy, and I have been married since 2008. I am a stay-at-home mom and new business owner and my husband is a Finance Analyst. We began dating when we were in high school and we love raising our family in the town we grew up in!
We began our adoption journey in 2009 after dealing with infertility for some time. We went through the Domestic Infant Adoption program in our local area. We were chosen pretty quickly by an Expectant mom, who later decided to parent. About a month later, we got a call about a baby girl who had already been born and we picked our daughter, Anna, up that afternoon!
About a year later, we decided to try to adopt again. We finished our homestudy and two weeks later, we got called about an Expectant mom who had chosen us. Our son, Anthony, was born two weeks later. We have an open adoption with his birthmom and cherish the relationship we've formed with her.
Another year later, we became licensed as foster parents. Our hope was to adopt a sibling group from the foster care system. After waiting about six months, we learned of two girls that were in need of a forever home! So four days later, they moved into our home and Agnes and Mya became a part of our family.
So in 2 1/2 years, we brought home four children who are a total of 22 months apart. Our lives are a little crazy and a lot noisy! Our big girls (6 months apart) are absolutely best friends. It is a total delight to watch them as sisters. Our younger two (2 months apart) are also best buds! It is amazing how our family has been formed and we wouldn't change any of it for the world.
All three of our girls are black. They have a lot of beautiful curls that range in texture from super kinky and dry to soft and loose curls. Our son is biracial (black/white) and has very soft, loose curls and eyelashes to die for!
Since Anna was born, I have devoted many hours to learning how to properly care for and style my girls' hair. It became a hobby and a passion of mine and when the opportunity to take over Africa Sleeps arose, I jumped on it! I love sharing my passion with others. I have been using Africa Sleeps products for a long time and I absolutely love the way they nourish and moisturize my girls' hair. I've tried just about every product out there and I don't have to search any longer.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me and my family. I sincerely hope that Africa Sleeps can continue to serve you and your family for many years to come. I truly love what I do and I love to hear from my customers.
Finally, I would like to thank Arnica for establishing such a wonderful business and taking such great care to formulate products that are natural, safe, and effective for hair and skin of Africa Heritage. Her hard work and passion is what started this and it's something I plan to continue and grow from!
